We had such a great time in New York City. One of my favorite parts were all the Broadway shows we got to see. We saw An American in Paris, Something Rotten, and an Finding Neverland.
An American in Paris was a really beautiful show. The ballet dancing in it was breathtaking. The design elements in this show were very cool and done very well. They didn’t have many set pieces and yet were able to use them in different ways to portray the setting really well. With music by the Gershwin brothers, it reminded me of many songs from the musical Crazy for You. The show’s story line was very interesting and I really enjoyed it.
Something Rotten was a hilarious musical! It had so many funny musical references in it. It did have some adult humor so I wouldn’t recommend bringing really little kids to this show. Also some of the humor might not make sense to non-theater geeks. The music in this show was so great. The costumes were amazing and overall it was a fantastic production.
Finding Neverland was such a fun and powerful show. Their sets were beautiful and all of the songs were amazing. The message of the show was really great as well. I loved how they revealed ways he got inspiration for Peter Pan. It was all done in a really creative way. The technical elements of this show were so new and fresh and it really made the show even more powerful. Please see Peter Pan before seeing this show because you will be able to understand it way better. This show would be perfect for people of all ages, and I really loved it.
Finding Neverland comes to the Segestrom next year in March. http://www.scfta.org/events/detail.aspx?id=14250
American in Paris will be at the Segestrom next year in April. http://www.scfta.org/events/detail.aspx?id=14269
I’m going to try and see both. I watched the movie American in Paris. I loved it.
Hamilton is also going on a national tour with stops at Pantages and Segerstrom. We are so bummed to miss it on both coasts!
