Of all the nights to be in Reykjavic, we happened to be here when Iceland was playing their second game of the Euro Cup 2016. Amazing for such a tiny country!!
And it seemed like every Icelander who wasn’t at the game in France was on the hillside next to our hotel to watch the game together. The town put together a Jumbotron facing a grassy hillside big enough for hundreds to gather and cheer on their countrymen.
So… Although the wise thing would have been going to bed early to shake off the jet lag, we marched the whole tired crew out to cheer like an Icelander!
And WOW! Icelanders have a cheering ritual I have never seen before. With arms raised in the air, they wait for a double drum beat then clap. All together… Very slowly… until the pace quickens and the crowd erupts like one of their volcanos!
Awesome! Great choice to stay up for that experience!
Was wondering if you guys got to see this! Must have been such fun!
